I know. After reading the post abit i've realised that Shawn The Divine was talking about the upper left part of the map being the original CA outpost : Not that the picture shown in Curse You's post was from the old CA.
The post he quoted was saying that the CA outpost looked nothing like this one:
^ That was the picture i was talking about in my post.
This whole Xunlai thing is getting me confused.

The old Competition Outpost and the arena map are one and the same. Actually, way back, every arena had it's own outpost and purpose. Was something like :
Ascalon Arena: 4v4 random arena
Shiverpeak Arena: 4v4 random arena
D'Alessio Arena: 6v6 random arena
Fort Koga : 4v4 random arena
Amnoon Arena: 6v6 team arena
Deldrimor Arena: 4v4 team arena
later on they just merged the bunch of maps into competition arena and kept drok's as team arena
|
I've taken the liberty of taking the D'Alessio Arena picture, and outlining the section were the Comp Arenas outpost was, complete with showing where the CA/LA portal was.
We all clear now? No Xunlai Marketplace there, aite? Moving on...

Speaking for myself, If GW2 went Pay-to-Play I would either keep playing GW1 or find a decent Korean Pay-for-Fancy-Dress-Free-To-Play.
I hate to be "forced" to play a game everyday to ensure that I "Get my moneys worth."
Of Course, The Ebeneezer in my name isn't coincidence. I love the sound of screaming Pennys.

Everyone's examining the textures and text, no one's extracted the music yet? There's a ton of music in the file that you can't get from DirectSong, including the Christmas tune. Sort by size and start extracting sound files. There are several very fast-paced tune that sound almost like the Nightfall battle music, but without any instrument but the drums. There are quite a few bits of Factions music composed by one "Robert Ridihalgh". There are some truly eerie bits of music that I believe are associated with Abaddon and the Domain of Fleshy Gobbets with Hair On Them, but that I don't recall hearing anywhere in-game.
If others on this thread are correct, then the ID# and such of everyone's file is different. However, file sizes should be the same, so here are a couple of interesting tunes you should be able to find if you sort by size:
Wintersday Theme:
#:55934 - Size: 1138924
Creepy Abaddon-esque music:
#:97252 - Size: 1024420
#:97205 - Size: 1080132
#:97263 - Size: 982968
Drumbeats:
#:81730 - Size: 1051392
#:81729 - Size: 1098064
#:126976 - Size: 1473168
Really STRANGE creepy drumbeat:
#:90303 - Size: 1162664
Like I said, your #'s may be different, but sorting by filesize should lead you to them...

Heh, I extracted the music long ago. There are a few tracks missing from the official DirectSong packs that really should have made it in.
1. Kaineng Center (also on Factions preorder CD)
2. Audience of Heroes (one of the songs that plays in the Crystal Desert + Catacombs)
3. The holiday music
4. Some NF battle music

Interestingly enough, Robert Ridihalgh did a lot of the music in Factions, including some of what I would consider to be the defining tunes. The Kaineng Center theme that plays throughout the entire city is his, as is most of the Shing Jea field music and some of the cinematics. And if I hadn't extracted those tracks I would have continued to assume it was all Jeremy Soule...

I think Ridihalgh works on the sound team and implemented the songs. "Zen Daijun," or "Rural Unrest Victory" in the dat, appears in the DirectSong pack under Soule's name. Obviously, I'm conjecturing at who the real artist is, but neither version (DS or dat) credits the other.
According to the file data from the Factions preorder CD, Soule also did the "Kaineng Center," "Age of the Dragon," and other Shing Jea music. It's a bit of a puzzle how the Raisu Palace music ended up under the name of the former in the official soundtrack release.

My sizes don't match yours. Are those compressed sizes, extracted sizes, sizes on disk...?
Also, the drumbeats can often be heard in Obs Mode, Colossal farming in Zehlon Reach, and "The Hidden City" from the NF preorder CD can be heard in the Sunspear Arena lobby.

Those are the filesizes as presented to me by GWDatBrowser.exe, prior to extraction. The filesizes of the extracted MP3s are, unsurprisingly, slightly larger and useless for searching inside the file.
Also, I noticed that the filename given to the MP3 by GWDatBrowser is one less than the # it shows inside the file. For example, the Wintersday music got extracted as 55933_Sound.mp3, but is listed by GWDatBrowser as #55934. I'm assuming this is a bug in the dat browser.

Yeah the # in the code is 0 based, but displayed on the table it is 1 based.
Oddly enough, the CRCs for the files are there, it just doesn't display them. I've modified my version to display the CRCs (plus I have it saving the CRCs off to a file and comparing them to later versions so I can see what has changed from build to build huzzah!).

May it's due the file format of the disc.
Files in NTFS take more room than in FAT32, and files in FAT32 use more real disc space than in FAT.
So the real size becomes more once extracted.

If this is about the indexing on the music, it's just a matter of representation. The program counts from 0 (the first item in the dat is index 0 in the programs way of thinking), but shows you the files counting from one (the first item in the dat is index 1 when displayed on the file list). The inconsistency is because the files are named with the programs internal representation, instead of the one you are used to seeing.
If it's about something else, never then here's an extra explanation of why, anyway!
Tangential note:
For those of you who have GW on a FAT32 file system, the maximum size of a file is 4 GB, and the dat file is getting awful close.

Hmm, good point. I wonder how many of the "My GW don't work" threads in Tech Corner that explains?

Yup mines at 4.26GB...maybe it has to do with the amount of time its been installed on the system.
